Mary Lovvorn, Chairperson of the Sweetwood Resident Council, described what matters most at Sweetwood, “Ultimately it is the people. We love everyone who works here!”
Sweetwood residents especially enjoy recognizing the accomplishments of the students who work at Sweetwood. The shared friendships that develop between the students and residents are an important ingredient in Sweetwood’s warm and caring environment. Over the last two years, Sweetwood residents have recognized Jaimey, Amaya, and Spencer, all of whom bring smiles and dedication to their roles as exceptional waitstaff serving residents in Sweetwood’s dining room.
Sweetwood’s Resident Council and the entire community had the honor of recognizing the most recent graduates at a celebratory event. Jaimey graduated this spring from the McCann Technical School’s Medical Assistant Program, after a tenure of seven years working at Sweetwood. Soon, Jaimey plans to transition to her new field as a Medical Assistant. Amaya graduated this spring from high school and is looking forward to attending Mass College of Liberal Arts where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Residents are delighted that Amaya will continue to work at Sweetwood while pursuing her degree. Spencer, son of Sweetwood’s Executive Chef, graduated a year ago from high school, and is continuing to bring his skills to the culinary department while he attends Hudson Valley Community College.
These students have all worked many shifts while juggling schoolwork and other responsibilities, and as more than one resident said, “They deserve to be recognized!”
Resident Council Chairperson Mary Lovvorn commented on Sweetwood’s two most recent graduates, “Jaimey and Amaya are so kind and patient with all the residents. Based on their wonderful, caring, and dependable work at Sweetwood, we expect that they will be very successful in their new pursuits!”
Each spring, residents will continue to recognize and celebrate every graduate with a gift. Mary said, “I hope that it helps them to know that we are behind them and support their goals, even though, of course, we don’t want to lose them!” Sweetwood’s Executive Director, Taylor Conrow, and her colleagues, reiterated this sentiment, “We are so proud of our students and always ready to welcome them back!”
